It's been forever since I shared a new lot anywhere, but here goes. This is a actually an old Legacy lot from my hibernating ISBI Legacy (Idiocy).

I was revisiting this lot recently and decided it had some real potential. I cleaned it up a bit and made a copy, and this is what I got. It's not the most fantastic house ever, but I think it's decent, and for a large house it's quite playable on my computer.

This little building out back is a hair salon home business.

I volunteered to makeover this house for Nikki who commented on my blog. It's a house that came with Seasons that is located in Riverblossom Hills. It's a pretty nice house, but needed a bit of help. I didn't change as much as I usually do, but I knocked out all the inside walls and rearranged them. I redid the roof, decorated the lot a little, and I fixed the silly deck on the back of the house that had a weird slot in it for the tree. That didn't make sense - it's not like a gardener needs to get in there to water the tree.

Hearty Home - a requested Maxis makeover

I received a request to rebuild Hearty Home about a week ago. It came in the lot bin with the Seasons EP. I had a lot of fun doing a makeover on it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, although I did forget to add all the light fixtures I meant to, oops. I kept all the outside walls intact, but knocked out and rebuilt all the interior walls. I changed the windows, doors and decor, although I did stick with mostly Seasons stuff. I changed the roof and added a loft bedroom and bathroom that is weatherproof for Seasons. I expanded the porches and added a sun porch to the front of the house. I also added a deck to the back and a greenhouse. I knocked out the bathroom wall in the separate building and added on a bathroom, making it a bigger building which will be a nice home business, or could be used for something else. I kept the ponds as they are and changed the fencing and flooring on the bridge and added a little arch to it..

I did briefly playtest a copy of the lot, and didn't find any problems.

Twilight: Bella Swan's House (base game)

I had a few requests on Mod The Sims to build a base game compatible version of Bella Swan's House, so I thought I'd give it a try. It should have been easy, but I have been working on it for about 3 weeks. I first started using a laptop with the base game, but it was just too slow to build stuff on. Then, I tried AnyGameStarter again, but it only wanted to work part of the time, and so it was very frustrating. Finally, I remembered that I had another computer I could use with just the base game. Then, I had trouble with some of the custom content either crashing the game or not showing up in the base game, so I decided to keep it simple and use less stuff.

So, this is the 3rd base game version I've built, but it now seems to work. I'm fairly satisfied, even though it's not everything I'd hoped it would be.

If you have Nightlife installed, you can use the "moveobjects on" cheat to add a driveway extension piece as shown. I used an extension instead of an actual driveway because the space it needs to go in is too close to the right edge of the lot. You will then want to use an invisible recolor such as the one by roddyaleixo. That will allow you to park a truck for Bella there if you want. Dr. Pixel has a 1950 Ford pickup that works well.

I finally have DSL, and I thought I would celebrate by finally posting a new house. I did the best I could on the floorplan and decorations within the limits of building in The Sims 2, and the custom content I have. I had to watch a lot of Twilight and New Moon, but I enjoyed it. ;)

The New Moon movie added the bay window on the side of the house as part of Bella's bedroom, although it really doesn't work with the floor plan for that to be a part of her room unless hers is the only upstairs room. In my version, the bay window is in Charlie's bedroom. The most important window for Bella is the front window, the one that Edward frequently climbs through. Of course, Jacob also climbed through once in New Moon.

Stay-Cation Lots: Mini Mountain, Takemizu, Twikkii + Apple Grove Cabins & Camping

Since I play a Prosperity Challenge, I had the desire to have my sims earn vacation memories. I've never had a sim yet earn all the memories, but a couple of them are close. What I found helpful was to give them a head start by creating some community lots that feature some of the things they could get on vacation. That simplified their time to allow them to do the stuff they can only earn on vacation like learning the different massages, going on disappointing tours, chasing the ninja around, etc.

This is the Mini Mountain lot where your sims can pretend to be at Three Lakes.

Here they can throw axes, roll on a log, look at tree rings, and eat flapjacks.

This is the Mini Takemizu lot where sims can pretend to be in the Far East.

Here they can rake the zen garden, toss coins in the shrine, play mahjong, drink tea, and eat chirashi.

At the Mini Twikki lot, your sims can learn to sing an annoying sea chantey from a ghost pirate, explore the pirate ship, make an offering in the temple fountain, eat pineapple surprise, and learn fire dancing.

Apple Grove Cabins & Camping is a good place for neighborhood sims to go spend the night.

They have the option of sleeping in a tent and room service is also available. There is also the option of catching a few fish in the pond and grilling your dinner to save money.

Looking at these last two pictures, at the very least you will be able to acquire these memories from these lots. Without leaving the neighborhood, you could also dig for treasure on any lot. If you have a beach lot in your neighborhood, remember that you can dig for seashells on any beach lot. You can also have your sims take pictures anywhere they happen to be and order the photo album at home to earn that memory. Once some of the sims in your neighborhood have learned the dance and gestures, learning those may also be an easy (and very annoying) thing to accomplish in the neighborhood.

Even though there are no memories involved, souvenirs are for sale at each of the three mini vacation lots. You will need to download Lord Darcy's Vacation Souvenirs Buyable Everywhere that will allow you to buy them in the neighborhood. I also recommend downloading MaryLou & Numenor's Postcards Galore! postcard racks. They are a fun addition to the game. They could not be included in the lots because they will not package all the parts you need with the lot.

Numenor's Outdoor Lantern is included in the Mini Mountain lot and Apple Grove Cabins & Camping.
Dr. Pixel's Thatched Roof Outhouse is pictured in the Mini Twikkii lot, although I didn't include it. Instead, I made an outhouse out of a toilet stall that looks similar just to cut back on the custom content.

Watervista Palace

I haven't posted anything in a few months, but I thought I would give it a try today. Part of the reason I haven't posted is the frustration I feel with my dial-up internet. My satellite internet equipment got fried this summer by lightning, which was in a way a blessing. It was overpriced, and we didn't feel it was worth replacing. Dial-up is terrible, but much cheaper. It just makes it difficult to blog anything with pictures, but I'll survive.

Watervista Palace is a semi-secret lot in Belladonna Cove - the neighborhood that came with the Apartment Life expansion pack. I say it's semi-secret because you can actually see it. It's by itself over by some rocks and has its own little stretch of road. The lot is supposed to be Baba Yaga's hut, a witch of Russian folklore that lived in a hut on chicken legs with no windows or doors. Well, it's of little use to me in it's original state.

I remodeled this house for a MATY House of Fail/Phail challenge for November 2009. As you can see, it's a residential lighthouse. It has 5 bedrooms - each with its own bathroom plus an additional full bath by the nursery and 2 half baths. The double nursery is on the second floor. There are a lot of doors that can be locked to keep visitors somewhat contained. I have thoroughly playtested it for over a week, and it wasn't too bad to play with all the floors, IMO. With a few exceptions, most of the interesting stuff should happen on the bottom two floors. The cost is $72,195. I have all the EPs, M&G, Celebration, and Family Fun.

Here it is from the neighborhood view. I stuck it in a blank spot in Bluewater Village, where it seems to work quite nicely.

I built this house for another MATY House of Fail/Phail challenge for March 2009, but never ended up entering it there. This is a remake of Malcolm Landgraab's mansion. I turned it into a home business venue, blocking off access to the inside of the house by locking the doors to all areas except for the pool area and the garage which has been converted to a gym. This house has been playtested.

Apple Grove Post Office

I built this 1x1 lot for my Prosperity neighborhood in hopes of adding a little realism to Apple Grove. Your sims won't be able to mail letters here or check their post office boxes, but they can buy postcards to display at home, or to give away as gifts. They can also check the wanted posters while they're here. Enjoy!

Please Read for Best Results:
Make sure that you install the Post Office CC file and the Postcards Galore! before installing the Apple Grove Post Office in order to have the custom content show up properly on the lot. The reason the extra CC files are not in the lot package is because they wouldn't package with the lot. The reason Postcards Galore! was not included is because if you don't already have it in your game, then you will be missing some of the files that make it work.

Additionally, thank you to Mootilda for the LotAdjuster which was used to allow me to build walls one square closer (right side) to the edge of the lot. This most likely will not cause a problem in your game, but please report any problems you believe are related if you have them. Keep in mind that it is possible to delete the wall(s) that are one tile from the edge, but you will not be able to rebuild anything there without expanding the lot again.

This is the second in my series of affordable family houses that are under §50,000 with at least 3 decent-sized bedrooms. I thought while I was building these for me, maybe others out there are looking for the same thing.

This particular house would be nice for a growing family of up to 6 sims. It has few decorative items, but it has nice furniture and plenty of room.

Apple Grove Wedding Chapel

I built this church for my Prosperity neighborhood so my sims from Apple Grove could get married in a nice place that is always ready for a wedding. In the basement of the church and the reception hall there is an area for your sims to dress and get ready if you need it. Obviously, it is a good idea to check before they leave their house to make sure they have good formal wear. There are also restrooms in case your sims need freshening up or drink too much champagne.

For best results, I have my sim form a group for an outing with their intended spouse and the wedding guests. Other sims will also show up at the church since it's a community lot. It would be best to wait to invite the group until your sim is at the wedding chapel and ready to get married (they will need a cellphone for this), as that gives you more time to work on getting a good outing score. It your have the ceremony first, most guests should be changed into formal clothing. I also use a nifty little "formal sign" you can get on Simlogical to get the late arrivals and wedding crashers to change in formal wear. Next, you can have your sims head over to the reception hall for wedding cake. There is also a buffet, although I don't usually use it. After cake, there will be many, many toasts to the bride and groom.

1 Affordable Avenue - No CC

This is the first house in a series I plan to build that are under §50,000 with at least 3 decent-sized bedrooms. I like to play challenges, and I've found that besides starter houses I mostly have large expensive houses in my lot bin. This makes it difficult to find affordable housing that is large enough for my sim families who have outgrown their starter houses but who can't afford luxury houses yet. I thought while I was building these for me, maybe others out there are looking for the same thing.

This particular house would be nice for a growing family of up to 6 sims. When the babies and toddlers grow up, you can easily replace the cribs and toddler toys with beds. While there are few luxuries and a very small yard, this house should be fairly roomy for your sim family.

There is a monthly building challenge on MATY in Planet K 20X6 called "EAxis House of Fail." Basically, every month a house that came with the game is chosen for its crappiness, and people rebuild it, keeping the original outside walls. Sometimes there are other rules - this time the path had to remain as well. The idea is to take an ugly and/or unplayable house and turn it into a nice looking, playable home. 1 Divided Drive

The only thing I wish were different about the house is that when the roof is completely up, the dormers appear to be blocking part of the loft bedroom.

However, your sims can move around in that area without any problem, and in normal play you will not even see the dormers in the bedroom because they are technically on a different level. Oh, and the loft is also built to be weatherproof for Seasons.

I opted to name the street of my new set of split-level homes "Divided Drive." Sadly, it was the best I could come up with, but to me it sounds better than Split Street. This house has 4 levels inside, which was a challenge. I used a houseplan as a guide, but ended up making some major changes on the inside, and a few on the outside as well. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

73 Road to Nowhere - Rebuilt

For the last few months there has been a challenge on MATY in Planet K 20X6 called "EAxis House of Fail." Basically, every month a house that came with the game is chosen for its crappiness, and people rebuild it, keeping the original outside walls. The idea is to turn it into a nice looking, playable home.

So here is August's challenge house. If you've ever played Strangetown, you may have seen this little vacant house. It is a little piece of crap. The long, narrow entrance is a death trap for your sims, and everything is all ugly on the inside with a bad floor plan. To top it all off, the edges of the lot are not even level.

And this is my version of the same lot. Well, I actually took a lot of pictures of the original lot and rebuilt it just like the original, only I used a flat lot. Then I added on and changed it until I got this.

Front view with the entrance moved to the right front side.

This is a view of the top floor. There are 2 bedrooms decorated for children, and the hallway area holds dressers, a dollhouse and a piano. The smaller bedroom has a door that leads out on the balcony where there is a telescope.

This is the main floor. There is a foyer, kitchen, dining room, living room which leads out to the greenhouse, full bathroom, guest 1/2 bath, twin nurseries, an enclosed back porch, and a single garage. There is also an enclosed stairway that leads to the basement.

This is a view of the basement. The master bedroom is located here, along with two other empty rooms that could also be used as bedrooms, crafting rooms, music rooms or storage. There is also a full bathroom, an exercise machine, and a stereo in the hallway area. This is a large enough area that it could work as a family room.

This is the master bedroom located in the basement. As you can see, the light comes into the room nicely. This is because the foundation has been raised from "4 clicks" to "6 clicks." The foundation was originally built this way on this particular house, however I always raise the foundation to let light in if I plan to have a basement.

An upstairs bedroom.

This narrow upstairs bedroom leads out to the balcony above the enclosed porch.

This is a view of the dining room facing toward the enclosed back porch where there are toddler toys and a chess table.

And this is a view of the dining room facing the other direction. The sliding door is where the former entrance was. It is now an enclosed stairway. Enclosed stairways are good for locking out guests from other levels. This is just one idea from J.M. Pescado's awesomespecs.

This kitchen is somewhat narrow, but it should be large enough.

My Original "The Burrow"

After I rebuilt the original Weasley Burrow because of the non-level edges issue I mentioned in my previous post, I discovered that with LotAdjuster it could be fixed. This is called Murphy's Law, but that's OK. So, I loaded The Basegame + University on my hubby's computer, fiddled with LotAjuster, and yada, yada, yada... the lot is now flat. So here are some original upload pics from when I put it on the exchange in July 2005, and apologize that they're small and can't be enlarged when you click on them:

I'm sharing the original lot because I figure that someone out there won't have all the expansions I do, but might have at least University. Use this lot at your own risk, however I have tried it out on two of my computers with no problems. The lot is very similar to the one I rebuilt, although there are minor differences. I think the lot costs about §100K.

The Weasley Burrow

I don't know about you, but I can't help but get excited about the new Apartment Life expansion pack that's coming out in less than a month. I think it's really cool that finally there will be at least a little more magic stuff in the game. With this in mind, I thought this would be the perfect time to dust off and rebuild The Weasley Burrow.

At one time -- way back when I only had the Uni EP, I built the Weasley's house. Unfortunately, I built it on a lot that didn't start out being level, which I found out later is a very bad thing for people who place lots in neighborhoods like Veronaville, as non-level lots seem to permanently alter the terrain. In shallow neighborhoods, this can cause really bad flooding everywhere. Anyway, I ended up deleting just about everything from the exchange at the time I realized this. I just didn't have the interest for the longest time to rebuild any of those lots, but now that there will be witches and magic I couldn't resist rebuilding this one:

The Burrow is built on a 3x5 lot, is 5 stories high, and has 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The cost is §155,244, although I don't think the Weasley's paid that much, as it looks like most of the building materials were salvaged from abandoned homes and buildings. In defiance of physical laws, The Burrow must be held together mostly by magic.

Requires: all EP's up to FreeTime. I also have Family Fun and Celebration SP's, although those may not required, especially if you install the house with Sims2Pack Clean Installer. I don't usually include items from the Stuff Packs in my uploads, however I did with this particular lot.

Recommended File: If you happen to recover your enchanted car from the Forbidden Forest, you will probably want an invisible driveway recolor which unfortunately didn't package itself with the lot. If you don't already have such a recolor in your Downloads folder, roddyaleixo has some you can get here.

Sears Modern Homes No. 137

Hughes.net Update: Contacting our state's Attorney General got our internet problems fixed free of charge. It's amazing how much better customer service is when they have that kind of motivation to succeed. We didn't have to talk to a single person in India this time, either. As it turns out, the problem was that the power cord to our modem was defective, causing the modem to go out during the peak energy usage times of the day because it wasn't getting 100% full power. Weird. Took the poor repair guy hours to find the problem.

Anyway...

On to the main topic of this post, which is another Sears home. When I saw the picture, I fell in love with the house and I had to build it right away. The house is fully furnished on a 2x2 lot for §79,193 with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a full daylight basement.

Important: Marvine's Spiral Stairs need an animation file which is included in my lot's .zip file, but it is not inside the .sims2pack file. You just need to make sure that the animation file ends up in your Downloads folder when you install the lot. If you use folders inside your Downloads folder, make sure the Spiral Stairs and the animation file end up in the same folder.

I decided I should start a blog with my latest houses, as my internet "provider" has gone downhill considerably. I have no service between 10:30 a.m. and about 6:30 p.m. every single day. In case you're wondering who to avoid, I have Hughes.net, and they really, really, really suck. Anyway, this means I have less time to attempt to jump through hoops at MTS2 and deal with their site/server issues, so I will just feature any of my new/rebuilt houses on this blog first and upload them to box.net. I still may put them on MTS2 eventually. It's just a lot of work. :P

I actually built this cottage several months ago, but I never got around to uploading it. It's built on a 1x2 lot and has 2 bedrooms, and 1 bath. The house is fully furnished and costs §42,941. I playtested a copy of the house, and everything seems to be working well.

This is a view of the right side. Don't worry, the dog is not included. ;) He was there when I was playtesting a copy of the lot.

This is a view of the attic. The walls are a bit weird and short and it's a little darker than I like, but it works fine and is weatherproof for Seasons.

And here is the main floor. The only problem I found is with the sofa/coffee table arrangement. You may have to move the coffee table out a bit for your sims to use the side of the sofa closest to the fireplace. I tried to fix this several times, but when I save and package, it seems to move back. :P So if you want to fix it, type boolprop snapobjectstogrid false into the cheat box (Ctrl + Shift + C) and move it out toward the kitchen a little. When you have it where it works for your sims, type boolprop snapobjectstogrid true into the cheat box.

Update: It was brought to my attention on MTS2 that I omitted a dining table. I remember trying to figure out where to put it, but I guess I never decided, LOL. So here is a picture where one will work. As you can see, I playtested it, and even with the coffee table moved out to allow sims to sit on the sofa, sims can still walk between the tables.

Harmonious Haven

Here is another house I remodeled for MATY's EAxis House of Fail for July 2008. Today's date is actually August 20, 2010, but I just don't want to push out my newer posts with my older stuff. I'm just trying to archive all my lots in my blog.

Here is the original lot that came in the lot bin with Seasons. Like most of the pre-built homes in the Sims 2, it is not a house I would ever use for my sims. It is not a harmonious haven at all to me.

Yes, this house did come with an indoor pool originally, and part of the challenge was to leave it. I would think in real life in would be quite impractical for most people.

This one was $150K -- down to §87K after the magic wand. I tried to keep it to awesomespecs. I used all EPs through FreeTime, and have Family Fun and Celebrations stuff packs installed, although I tried not to use anything from the SPs, so they may not be required. A copy of the lot was playtested, and everything seemed to work well.

The real date is actually August 20, 2010, but I thought I'd go back in time and blog this Maxis Makover I did back then and posted to MATY's EAxis House of Fail Makeover Challenge. I just don't want to push out my newer posts with my older stuff.

I used all the expansion packs through FreeTime, plus Family Fun and Celebrations stuff packs. I don't think I used any items from the stuff packs, so they may not be required. The house's value started out at around §192K, but thanks to the Pescado's magic wand, the price is now about §110K. The house is mostly up to awesomespecs, although the nursery is upstairs because it really didn't fit anywhere else. I also put in too many flowers and shrubs. I realized this when my sims couldn't pay their gardener one day and he quit coming, as they had to waste a great deal of their own time watering flowers and trimming shrubs. Other than those two details, the house is very playable, IMO.

There is a kitchen counter in one side of the nursery to hold a smart milk dispenser. The teddy bear is on there as a placeholder to keep your sims from preparing dinner upstairs.
